LNG - Marine Systems

Capacity

5 - 50 People

Duration

1 Day (intro) or 2 Days (full program)

This training provides a solid technical foundation on LNG marine systems, covering the essential design principles, safety concepts, and operational requirements used in shipboard LNG applications.

About the Course

About the Course

This training provides a solid technical foundation on LNG marine systems, covering the essential design principles, safety concepts, and operational requirements used in shipboard LNG applications. The course offers a structured understanding of LNG process behaviour, cargo handling, fuel gas supply systems (FGSS), and international maritime standards.

Using real marine cases and engineering experience, the program highlights best practices in LNG transfer, storage, vaporisation, bunkering operations, safety instrumentation, and emergency management. By the end, participants gain the knowledge required to confidently interpret system designs and support LNG-related engineering or operational tasks.

Objectives

Participants will learn to:

  • Understand the fundamental thermodynamic and physical properties of LNG and natural gas.

  • Recognize the layout and function of major shipboard LNG systems (cargo tanks, pumps, vaporizers, FGSS).

  • Learn international codes and standards (IGF Code, IGC Code, EN/ISO).

  • Understand LNG bunkering methods and associated safety requirements.

  • Interpret P&IDs, system schematics, and safety interlocks for LNG operations.

  • Gain familiarity with emergency shutdown systems (ESD), gas detection, and hazard management.

  • Understand typical design challenges: boil-off gas management, insulation, material selection, venting philosophy.

  • Evaluate the role of LNG in decarbonisation and alternative fuels strategies.

Benefits

By completing this course, participants will:

  • Build a practical understanding of how LNG marine systems operate from end to end.

  • Gain confidence in evaluating supplier proposals, technical drawings, and design packages.

  • Improve communication between engineering, operations, and safety teams.

  • Understand critical risks and how to manage them through design and procedures.

  • Strengthen readiness for roles in bunkering, LNG-fuelled vessels, terminals, and shipyards.

Who Should Attend

This course is ideal for:

  • Marine and mechanical engineers working with LNG systems.

  • Ship operators, fleet managers, and technical superintendents.

  • LNG bunkering operators, terminal personnel, and port authorities.

  • New engineers entering LNG fuel or LNG marine transport projects.

  • Project managers, procurement leads, and classification consultants dealing with LNG equipment suppliers.
